The 34th annual meeting of the International Business Leaders’ Advisory Council for the Mayor of Shanghai (“IBLAC”) took place in October, with the theme “Promoting green, low-carbon development for urban sustainability.” Merlin Swire, CEO of John Swire & Sons Limited, was one of 40 executives from major multinationals who met virtually with the city’s top officials, including then Party Secretary, currently member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Mr Li Qiang and Mayor Mr Gong Zheng. During the meeting, Merlin shared his thoughts on ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) practices and strategies for developing a vibrant ESG ecosystem within the industrial supply network.
