Supporting victims of the Tai Po fire

Following the tragic fire in Hong Kong's Tai Po district last November, Swire and its operating companies moved swiftly to help those affected by the disaster. Within days of the incident unfolding, HK$10 million was directed to the relief efforts via the Swire Trust, with various operating companies also providing monetary aid, which significantly increased the total pledged by the Group. Swire Properties matched proceeds from on-site activities and a proportion of sales from its annual White Christmas Street Fair, while HAECO Hong Kong donated all proceeds from its Christmas Gathering, along with matching contributions, to support those affected. The Cathay group and Swire Properties ran employee fundraising initiatives which matched every dollar donated by their people.

In terms of in-kind support, volunteers from Swire Coca-Cola HK, Swire Properties and HAECO helped to prepare transitional housing for displaced families. Swire Coca-Cola HK corporate volunteer team, "V Group", was on-site to help residents move in to transitional housing and, together with The Coca-Cola Company, delivered beverage bottles to people affected in the immediate aftermath of the fire and provided shared fridges for temporary use. The Cathay group provided essentials, such as toiletries, blankets, sleeping mats and sleeping bags, as well as warm meals. At HK Express, over 100 volunteers joined Cathay's relief team through NGO partners. Swire Resources contributed clothing and footwear to community centres that were supporting residents affected by the blaze.

The Swire Group continues to offer its steadfast support and care to everyone impacted by last year's tragedy.
