China Navigation rebrands as Swire Shipping

The China Navigation Company Pte. Ltd. (“CNCo”) has been renamed Swire Shipping Pte. Limited, as part of a strategy to unify and streamline its brands. Swire Shipping is already widely recognised as the operating name of the business and has become synonymous as a leading provider of sustainable liner shipping services to the Asia-Pacific markets, connecting over 400 ports via its extensive network; the name change is designed to reflect the company’s strong global presence and commitment in the Pacific area. In August 2021, the company embarked on the renaming of the fleet, and the majority of its vessels will now be named after a Pacific Island nation or location. In January 2021, CNCo’s bulk shipping division became a standalone entity under Swire Bulk Pte. Limited, and in July, Swire Shipping launched its landside logistics division.

The name of the holding company in the UK – The China Navigation Company Limited – will remain unchanged. Similarly, the names of the company’s subsidiary and branches on the Chinese Mainland, as well as its brand name “太古轮船 Taigu Lunchuan (CNCo)” will be retained, as these names are deeply embedded in the region. CNCo, which is the Swire group’s oldest operational company, was first established on the Yangtze River in 1872 and celebrates its 150th anniversary in 2022.
