Swire Shipping recently initiated a company-wide Mental Health Day, giving staff time off to relax, de-stress, socialise and take part in activities designed to boost morale and enhance mental wellbeing. The pandemic conditions have been particularly difficult for sea staff: global air travel restrictions and quarantine requirements have made travelling to and from their homes challenging, and there has been no access to shore leave when in port. Office staff have meanwhile had to cope with the challenges of remote working. The importance of looking out for colleagues and taking time to lend a sympathetic ear or talk through issues were key findings of the day. Staff were encouraged to send in photographs of their activities, which included cards and board games, karaoke, dancing and walking in the mountains.
