The Swire Trust is donating HK$15 million over three years to NGO St. James’ Settlement to assist with the development and operation of a new community space on the Quarry Bay harbourfront. The project is one of the Trust’s major TrustTomorrow funding initiatives and has already received support from the Hong Kong SAR Government’s Development Bureau, which has approved a HK$60 million grant for its construction on a 3,740 square metre vacant site near Hoi Tai Street. Swire Trust will subsidise the operation of the community space, while Swire Properties will provide consultancy support for its design and construction. Collaborate Hong Kong, a not-for-profit advisory and collaboration platform, will also provide professional advice on community-led placemaking initiatives. The new space, which has been named “Quarryside”, will include an open lawn and a pavilion housing multipurpose rooms that will be available for NGO and community use to host both regular programmes and one-off events designed to encourage the arts, promote health, wellness, and sustainability, and stimulate creativity in the community. A ground-breaking ceremony was held at the site on 24th November, and it is expected to open by the end of 2022.
