In April, Cathay announced the successful pricing of a three-year, fixed-rate, Hong Kong dollar bond totalling HK$2.08 billion at 3.78%. This marked Cathay’s first fundraising in the Hong Kong dollar public bond market. The move also represents the largest public bond issuance in the currency by a Hong Kong-based, non-public-sector company.
The issuance of the bond attracted strong interest from professional investors and is a reflection of Cathay’s continued commitment to Hong Kong. By participating in and supporting the development of the city’s financial markets, Cathay is playing a part in reinforcing Hong Kong’s position as a leading international financial centre. Cathay intends to use the proceeds for working capital and general corporate purposes.
