Recently, Cathay celebrated its people's achievements at the 2026 Betsy Awards, held at Cathay City. Named after the airline's first aircraft, the awards brought together winning teams and members of Cathay's executive team to recognise 18 stories demonstrating the exceptional contributions of colleagues from across the business.
This year, the “Grand Award”, the “People’s Choice Awards (Areas of Leadership)”, and the “Safety & Operational Excellence Award” all went to “Calm in the Eye of the Storm”. This story described the cross-departmental and regional response to Super Typhoon Ragasa in September 2025, when Hong Kong International Airport closed for more than 30 hours. More than a thousand colleagues remained on duty, helping to safeguard the airline’s people and fleet, support 85,000 customers and help restore operations safely and smoothly.
The teams’ extraordinary commitment and collaboration under challenging circumstances earned them widespread recognition from colleagues across the business and exemplified the Cathay spirit.
